Tasting along the walls of the Upper Town - B<\/span>er<\/span>gamo is a city rich in history and culture, a real tourist jewel<\/strong>. Indeed, the Lombard capital boasts a prestigious architectural heritage of medieval origins and numerous works of art. But there is more! Bergamo's culture is also very much linked to the territory and its agricultural products<\/strong>and it is no coincidence, therefore, that gastronomy has assumed a key role.<\/span><\/p>\n

To meet the needs of the tourist, eager to discover Italian fragrances and flavours<\/a><\/span>we took into consideration the city's most atmospheric venues and tastiest foods. The idea is to create a gastronomic itinerary<\/strong> simple but accurate. A tasting<\/strong> along the Venetian walls to delight the palate and have a wonderful memory of Bergamo. Here, then, is a small selection of characteristic restaurants and trendy bars that will enable you to enjoy Bergamo cuisine.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Tasting along the walls of the Upper Town: recommended bars and restaurants<\/span><\/h3>\n

Typical lunch<\/span><\/h3>\n

The first stop on our route is an old restaurant located in Via Fara (Upper Town), just opposite the former church of St Augustine<\/strong>now converted into the Great Hall of the University of Bergamo. \"The Grape Harvest<\/strong> is a cosy and friendly place offering some of the most typical dishes of Bergamo's culinary tradition such as casoncelli and gnocchi, polenta<\/a><\/span> and homemade desserts. In summer, you can dine outdoors and enjoy local wines<\/strong>in a beautiful terrace surrounded by greenery and important historical buildings.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Tasty snack<\/span><\/h3>\n

It is called \"Al Gombito Tosteria<\/strong>\u00a0and is located in via Gombito<\/a><\/span>, one of the most picturesque areas in the Upper Town. This recently opened restaurant is the right place to stop for a break and enjoy an appetising homemade maxi toast<\/strong>. The choice of ingredients with which to stuff your toast is varied and original (hummus, sun-dried tomatoes, onion jam, etc.) and goes perfectly with locally produced cold meats and cheeses. A small eatery with a quiet and relaxed atmosphere where you can recharge your batteries and continue your tour of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Elegant dinner<\/span><\/h3>\n

A romantic dinner, a refined venue, an incredible view. These are just some of the highlights of \"The San Vigilio restaurant bar<\/strong>located just a short distance from the famous fortress of San Vigilio<\/span><\/a> and approved with full marks by the Michelin guide. The menu offers various land and sea dishes<\/strong> which the chef imaginatively reworks thanks to the rich selection of local meats and cheeses. An exclusive and elegant place where you can enjoy Italian delicacies without forgetting the flavours of other European cuisines.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Artisan ice cream <\/span><\/h3>\n

If you are looking for real Italian ice cream, then the 'La Marianna' bar & restaurant<\/strong> is the place for you. Located in Largo Colle Aperto, this place is a great place to stop after a nice walk along the walls of Citt\u00e0 Alta. It was here that the famous stracciatella flavour was born, the result of the creativity and experience of Enrico Panattoni<\/a>\u00a0who in 1961 created a tasty white cream with pieces of dark chocolate. Pastries, brioche, sandwiches and biscuits are just some of the options on the menu, which boasts a wide repertoire of affogati, creams and ice creams.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Refreshing drink<\/span><\/h3>\n

For the after-dinner drink, we thought we'd suggest a quaint place located right in Piazza Vecchia. We are talking about the 'Bar Flora'<\/strong>an elegant retro venue offering a wide selection of wines and cocktails, as well as snacks and finger food. From the tables you can admire the beating heart of the Upper Town<\/strong>the square, the Contarini fountain, the Angelo Mai Library and the Campanone.
