Meditation is the art or technique of calming the mind so as to soothe the interminable buzz that normally fills our consciousness. - Brian Weiss, American psychotherapist
What is meditation?
When someone tells us about meditation, we immediately think of exotic places and distant, unreachable lands. In our minds, we find ourselves in Asia, enveloped in scents and surrounded by colours quite different from our everyday life. Actually, the word 'meditation', from the Latin 'meditari' meaning 'to reflect, to care about something', can take place anywhere and at any time. And it can affect everyone, no one excluded!
Meditate, and thus get in tune with our being, increases our awareness of the world and improves our physical and mental health. The benefits of meditation are many: greater serenity, concentration, calmness and self-control. The general psychophysical well-being increases and the ability to relate to others in a positive manner is also strengthened. Age, culture, ethnicity, language do not count in meditation: anyone can find peace and serenity through confrontation with one's inner world.
Depending on the individual's needs, meditation takes on different aspects and manifests itself according to various techniques; some use it to relax, some to recharge their energies, some to get to know their body's potential better, and others need it to banish nervousness and bad moods. It does not matter what motivation drives us towards meditation. The lowest common denominator will always remain one and only one: feeling good. Feeling good about oneself, and consequently, feeling good about others.
