In 1997, American naturopath Peter D'Adamo devised the blood group dieta special diet that takes people's blood group into account. But how does this diet work? And what are its effects on the body? Let's find out together!
The blood group diet: origins and definition
The hypothesis underlying the theory of Peter D'Adamo is that the various human blood types were formed according to the evolution of their species. Each species, having been born in different times and places, has particular eating habits. Distinctly for each blood group there are foods that can be Beneficial Foods, Indifferent Foods and Foods to Avoid. Depending on the blood group we belong to, the beneficial ones have an almost pharmaceutical action for our organism, the indifferent ones can be taken normally, while the foods to be avoided can lead to real diseases.
From this premise, numerous diets to combat food intolerances and weight disorders; healthy, effective and undoubtedly customised diets because each individual has a personal psycho-physical structure. Unfortunately, however, it often happens that one goes on a diet without achieving great results. One often finds oneself weighing food, eating certain foods combined with others, getting used to new tastes that one may not even like. With the blood group diet, one is faced with a new interpretation; the search for an effective strategy for losing weight turns to what nutritional values our body needs. It will hardly be a monotonous or limiting diet because once we discover the ingredients that make us gain weight or, on the contrary, lose weight, we will discover that the combinations of the various ingredients are endless, creating dishes of our own.
The blood group diet: O or AB?
According to D'Adamo the BLOOD GROUP 0, the oldest, derives from the nomadic family of hunters, those with this group should prefer foods of animal origin. To lose weight and allow the body to function better, one should limit consumption of dairy products, legumes, cereals such as rice or bread (predisposition to coeliac disease). Igluten alters the metabolism by slowing it down and promoting fat accumulation. Fruit is an excellent alternative to bread and pasta, but it is good to limit consumption of acidic fruits (strawberries, orange, etc.). It is best to avoid caffeine, fizzy drinks, liqueurs and black tea. People in group 0 are usually of a robust physical constitution, they are suited to heavy physical activities, requiring great endurance. As a result of climate change and food shortages, man's diet changed from a carnivore to an omnivore.
The BLOOD GROUP AB is of the latest generation, is the rarest and is now present in less than 5 per cent of the population. Halfway between group A and B, so it predisposes to the characteristics of both. Apart from advising to keep dairy consumption under control as it can cause digestive upset and bloating, every food is well tolerated. Exceptions are tomatoes, oranges, bananas and persimmons. Ghe foods that promote weight loss are: fish, milk, cheese, green leafy vegetables and pineapple. People with type AB should limit themselves to eating pasta once or twice a week, while rice can be eaten more freely. Lemon and herbs are recommended as seasoning. Accompany meals with red wine and one or two cups of coffee during the day.
The blood group diet: A or B?
The BLOOD GROUP A comes from tribes that were dedicated to agriculture, so all plant foods and cereals have a positive effect on the body, while meat makes it heavier and fattens it up. It is therefore a good idea to opt for fish, avoid dairy products made from whole milk (soya is beneficial) and limit egg consumption. Type A people are well adapted to a diet based on cereals and fruit which can be eaten once or several times a day. Vegetables are vital. The most suitable sports are those that are more relaxing, in contact with nature such as yoga and meditationgolf, hiking, etc.
The BLOOD GROUP B belongs to individuals with nomadic origins. In fact, as they have to move around constantly, they have a very effective immune system and good digestion. Little present in Italy is blood group B, which developed from Asian nomadic populations, and has in fact spread from Japan to Mongolia, China, India and as far as the Urals. All dairy products can be freely consumed, with the exception of foods containing simple sugars (wheat and rye) or preservatives.
Maize and buckwheat, on the other hand, slow down the metabolism, promote fluid retention and lower resistance to exertion. Moderate consumption of pasta and rice. Those with weight problems should replace them with green vegetables and meat (preferably lamb, rabbit, mutton; chicken is not recommended). People of group B benefit from spicy spices and green tea. Their adaptability leads them to possess intellectual qualities that stand up to mental strain, we recommend sports of a strategic nature such as tennis.
