World Food Day - Bergamo specialities

World Food Day: the birth of FAO

We are now just a few days away from 16 October, a very special date when we celebrate World Food Day. Back in 1945, forty-two countries decided to meet in Quebec, Canada with the aim of creating a body that would coordinate promotional activities for food safety and committed to the fight against hunger and malnutrition. That year was marked by the birth of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations), which has always paid attention to the importance of a healthy and balanced diet for everyone, all over the world.

In this regard, we share with our readers a video posted a few weeks ago by FAO. The clip makes us reflect on how we often take for granted the food we buy and eat on a daily basisforgetting to appreciate the #eroids:

World Food Day: Bergamo's specialities

Every year, FAO celebrates this day by reaffirming its contribution at the international level and fostering greater awareness of our eating habits. But you don't have to travel very far to savour genuine, healthy and tasty products. In Italy, every town knows how to give us a wide repertoire of delicacies to enjoy throughout the year. And in Bergamo, you will be spoilt for choice!

To get in touch with the richness of the Bergamasque lands, just taste a plate of casoncelli accompanied by butter, sage and bacon; did you know that there is also a vegetarian version? The scarpinocc of Parre! If you are a wine lover, we recommend you try a glass of Moscato di Scanzo o Valcalepio DOC. Do you love ice cream? Well, you can't miss the bar's stracciatella - patisserie The MarianneThis is where this fantastic flavour was born!

Moreover, for those with a sweet tooth, there is nothing better than a nice slice of Donizetti cake or a bite of the mythical Polenta and Osei (yes, you got it right, it's really a dessert!). And again, those who love cheese can throw themselvese on Fomai de Mut or Taleggio and accompany it all with a hearty helping of polenta. In short, Bergamo is slow food presidia, DOC and DOCG excellence, KM O products, strictly healthy goodness... to learn more about Bergamo cuisine, you can have a look at this article: Bergamo and flavours: products of the Bergamo area

Local products: having breakfast at Spa Hotel Parigi 2

Continuing to talk about Bergamo's gastronomic heritage, let us recall the important project promoted a few years ago by East Lombardy: 'Breakfast: an opportunity to get to know the territory'. Having a tasty and nutritious breakfast is not only a great way to start the day, but also a unique opportunity to discover the specialities of a territory and its most typical products.

With this in mind, we would like to emphasise our commitment to the process of enhancing Bergamo's culinary variety. When you have breakfast in the Breakfast room at Spa Hotel Parigi 2 you will be able to sample some of our local delicacies:  homemade cakes, honey, cold meats and cheeses of the area and much more.

For World Food Day, discover the freshness and quality of our raw materials and let your taste buds guide you: Bergamo's culture has never been so appetising. 😜
